Request: Worldgen with a volcano on the beach
« on: April 11, 2010, 03:36:45 am »

Harder than it sounds. I've gone through about 10 worlds so far.

What I'm looking for is a volcano and ocean within a 3x3 or 4x4 local area of eachother and contact with other civs. Ideally it's on a peninsula so there's limited access from one side. Such a map would be epic but sadly my worldgen tweaking skills are not up to the challenge. Anyone have tips or care to give it a go?

No, it wouldn't be epic.
The volcano would cave-in under itself and cave-in under the last cave-in and you'd get over 9000 caveins and three days worth of "you have struck nobodycaresite" before anything would work.
Ocean + volcano + dwarven physics = earthrape.

Would this be specific to volcanos near oceans? I've tried maps with volcanos and oceans where there was a cave-in but no other issues after that. The problem was the areas were just too large and meant slow framerate.

If I knew anything about worldgen parameters I would help you to the bitter end, but so far it is a subject that I have been too lazy to figure out.

I should probly read up on that.

Sir, I got a cave-in that pierced
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
and it wasn't really that fun having them pop out and kill my dorfs in middle of a cavein.
By that I mean: not as fun as expected.

Perhaps, that could be pretty cool.

How exactly does farming on a glacier work?

I am asking this as I am thinking of embarking on that spot...

it's harder, but the concept is the same

get water, somehow, and irrigate.

you can custom gen a world with obscene amounts of volcanos, max is either 400 or 100, but regardless.  I believe the catagory is just "min volcanos" or something, DO NOT touch volcanism, I have no idea what that does.
then you can change the amount of ocean space, too.  then put demon types and titans to the max just for extra fun!

I'm trying to get a volcano next to sedementary layers (preferably flux) but thats rather difficult. Still relativly happy with the spot I've got, no coal but plenty of trees.
