A desert in the middle of a tundra!?
« on: April 11, 2010, 01:50:48 pm »

Found a really strange region in my latest world.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A red sand desert in the middle of a tundra, complete with a permanently frozen river that starts and ends abruptly.

Had this happened to anyone else? Is this technically possible? Personally, I think it's pretty cool.

I think you have a slice of Mars there.

Seriously though, there are cold deserts on Earth, so its not entirely out of place. Worldgen wise though, it looks like you have a fractured biome there or something. What kind of soil do the other biomes in that area have? If its also red sand, then there could be a connection, if not, no idea.

I settled in the spot I showed in the picture. The soil on the northern, tundra area is clay loam, mixed with granite and gabbro pebbles.
