DF Runs Slowly On Decent Computer
« on: April 10, 2010, 04:29:39 pm »

Hi,

I have a reasonably up-to-date computer (E6320 dual-core processor with 2GB RAM). I just installed Dwarf Fortress, and it runs very slowly compared to other similar computers I've played it on. With a fresh game file, it takes dwarfs about 1 second to move from one tile to the next :(

Task manager is showing DF running at 48-50% processor utilization (pegging one of the cores) with about 190MB memory usage.

Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

Also, on a probably-unrelated note, DF is also often reading my keypresses twice (I try to move one tile over and it moves two).

Help!

Probably graphics related... try enabling partial print in the init file.

See above, but also keep in mind that your processor is a bit on the weedy side for DF stuff, unfortunately.  Likewise, DF2010 has some speed issues that are working on being resolved.

PartialPrint worked wonders. Thank you.

(BTW, this was with the previous release and not DF2010)
