Siege engines could be able to fire in high indirect arcs at targets they have no line of sight to. However this would require spotters to walk repeat shots towards the mark and some form of communication.

Also there should be a way to rotate siege engines 360 degrees, on a turntable or otherwise. THis would be hard to show visually but at least the diagonals should be added.

breaking a siege/killing an uninvited guest should generate about +200 happy thoughts for all dwarves.

Having an overall morale/approval of the leader statistic for the entire fortress population would be good, it could tie into a lot of other things.

Happy thoughts tied into morale is a good idea.  Fixing unit leader AI is necessary.  Adding more options to wagons will be needed, to haul all the supplies  :)  That could be done at the same time as enhancements for sending out trade caravans.  I'd like to be able to fight the foreign battles, even though its not normal fortress mode. That can wait though

Being able to fight in foreign battles implies that the fortress will be able to run it's self for a while, at least in an implied way. If that is put in, there may be a way to allow fortresses to be left by the player and visited by the player as an adventurer while the fortress is still alive; as has been suggested many times before.

Som enemies would be willing to jump down either 1 or 2 z levels to invade you even if they have a chance to get stunned.
