I have a smelter that won't allow me to add any jobs.  It is giving me the error saying I need fuel or ore.  I have about 90 charcoal and more ore than I can shake a stick at.  I don't think I have any flux, could that cause this error?

If I'm not missing something, is there anything I need to know w.r.t. filing a bug report?

Is the charcoal forbidden or unpathable?

Are you trying to make specific metal?  Flux should only be required for steel and (iirc) pig iron.

Charcoal should be accessible, I'll verify that but it should be in my stockpile or still in the furnace workshop. 

I'd settle for being able to make *any* metal, but my goal is steel.  At this point, though, I'm getting the error message like I don't have ore or fuel.  I have gobs of tetrahedrite and gold ores, and probably some others I'm not aware of.

Hopefully this is a problem that will be fixed by save/reload, but either way I guess I ought to submit a bug report.

If you've got bituminous coal or lignite that isn't actually made into charcoal yet, remember you need that first piece of fuel from wood made at a wood furnace first. Not 100% whether or not you have that from your post, if you do, nevermind!

I'm having a similar (maybe) smelter problem.
I am able to smelt things, but I can't create any pig iron bars. I have iron bars and refined coal and marble stone. All sorts of smelting options show up in the menu except make pig iron bars (and make steel bars, but I have to have pig iron for that first).
Do I have to do anything special with the marble first?
Do I have to do it a a magma smelter instead of a normal smelter?

Could be, I'm not really sure. In my latest fortress, I didn't have any trouble using that first piece of wood burned charcoal to start smelting coal/lignite.

No to both questions, AFAIK.

Is there too many options to show on the screen at once?  Can you scroll down and see more?
