Apparently Toady didn't knew better and named both the Linux and Mac executable dwarfort.exe as if they were PE executable (neither ELF or Mach-O executable require or should have any extension), you should start in on Mac using the sh script df located along side the executable.

in the "df_osx" folder, there's a file named just "df", that's the one you have to double click; it will launch the Terminal.app, that will in turn launch df.

and if it opens the df file in a program other than terminal, right click and do 'open with' and select terminal.

Someone has brewed up a application launcher for DF, in the d## thread. I'm sure he'll update it to DF31, and then we can go back to point and clicking on shiny icons.

Damn, I'm on a University computer and Terminal access is restricted. Guess I'll have to continue to wait!

Actually, the .exe ending was my doing.

..what? It's an executable, it's not the executable you're supposed to run, therefore it's .exe. What makes people think .exe means PE executables, anyway?

Habit mostly.

Need to make the df stand out more. DWARF_FORTRESS_LAUNCH would probably get the clue across ;)
An app bundle would do wonders.

For the record, my mac doesn't open df with the terminal, it just gets annoyed and does nothing.

But Dwarf Fortress works perfectly well if I open the terminal (under utilities in Apps), cd over to the correct directory, and just type "sh df" manually.

It took me a while to figure out, so I figure it needs to be posted more often.
