Just another book thread
« on: April 07, 2010, 03:47:26 pm »

So, now that military dwarves can do individual exercises to raise their skill levels, I wouldn't mind seeing the same thing going on in the non-military professions.  Say your dabbling surgeon doesn't quite cut the mustard so much as random arteries.  He needs to study some.  So, the next time the caravan rolls through, you request a copy of Urist McHippocrates' "Treatise on Dwarven Anatomy."  Next year, the precious tome arrives, is placed on a bookshelf in your designated library, and studious dwarves can spend time sitting with it to improve their surgical skillz.

Highly skilled dwarves might use manufactured paper to produce appropriately titled books of their own. A scribe profession might make copies in the fortress library for trade.  And it goes on from there.
