Problems with a microphone

Hello there.

I have had problems with my microphone since an Update to my Windows 7 32 - bit since the 31st of march. After turning my computer off that night I installed some updates that were recommended by Microsoft for me to install. After then I have had problems using my microphone at all, the hardware is fine as I have tested it on a different computer, but the software on my PC has become altered in some way. It was working fine after a sesion of Team Fortress that night so I doubt it is my hardware although is it possible that the hardware has broken in some way? IF there are any fixes to my problem please reply, thank you.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)
