Dwarven physics are less stable than ever...
« on: April 04, 2010, 08:35:36 pm »

I keep encountering new and strange things in 0.31.01, but the strangest thus far has been when my Dwarves somehow managed to lodge 42 units of alcohol into the kitchen without my knowledge or consent.  And I don't mean in a barrel; the Dwarven wine was apparently floating there in mid-air, suspended by the electromagnetic field of the kitchen or something, as it just said that it was Dwarven Wine [42].  They refused to do anything with it (wouldn't cook it, wouldn't dump it, nothing), and I was forced to disassemble the kitchen.  Doing so collapsed the waveform and caused the Dwarven wine to all turn into a surprisingly small puddle for 42 units of booze.  I'm sure it's been reported by now on the bug reports forum, but I found it to be a fascinating abuse of the laws of physics.  A pity it took a third of my fledgling fort's alcohol reserves with it.

These are the kinds of bugs that make DF the game it is.  Magma vanishing?  Oops, it's all being sucked down by hell.
This is how everything works. This, right here, is DF.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Deep thought was really created to run Dwarf Fortress.  And the answer to life the universe and everything was only an excuse.

You know, I'm pretty sure the guy who caused the whole mess was called Artob Dentman.  Or it could have been his buddy, Fotthor Pridefat.  I still wonder if that one's really a Dwarf.  He keeps going outside the fort holding a steel idol and staring up at the sky.  Every time the other Dwarves ask what he's looking for, he says he's looking for a green forgotten beast and changes the subject.  Weird.

Same thing happened to me with like 84 units of tuber beer, I'm getting ready to disassemble it now.
