I can't find Magma Smelter in the furnace menu. Its just wood furnace, smelter, glass furnace, kiln. I'm using Mayday's pack thing 40d18

Firstly, you're playing an old version... the newest (v31.01.) is still full of bugs, but totally worth it.

Did you find magma yet? Did you find it with your miners or some reveal tool first? The activation of magma buildings is triggered by discovering the magma pipe or pool and reveal.exe breaks that. There's no way in the game to fix it. There is, however, a tool for enabling them... don't know the name, but you should be able to find it in the "tools" section of the wiki.

i guess thats what i get for cheating

also i can't play just the ASCII version because i started out on the complete and utter noob tutorial and for some reason cant comprehend the ASCII

Here's the utility to acticate magma buildings: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=443 I think, you'll have to run it again every time after you save and exit the game.

You could still use another tileset without problems. The only thing that wouldn't work are creature graphics. An "E" is an elf or elefant, a "g" mountain goat or goblin and your dwarves all look the same except for different color. All tiles except creatures would stay like you want them to. It's not that hard to get used to.

i think im just gonna restart without the reveal tool and try the ASCII because i want to do the doctor thing is there some way i have to install the tilesets for them to work?

acyd watch this guy captnduck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koZUS2h-Yzc. thats his first tutorial.Its kinda old but does give a very good grasp on all topics (apart from new things added in df2010)

i think he has around 40 vids and they are all around 9 mins so its a bit of a watch.
