My fortress is out of food and booze and I wanted to get one of my woodcutters hunting.
Though, he's just standing there with a dumb smile (like that-> ☺) on his face doing nothing.

How do I get him to hunt?

They don't hunt with melee weapons?
Damn.

I actually tried to send my military out to kill an animal. They punched a raccoon against the side of a mountain for awhile. Broke a couple bones, but they mostly caused bruises that healed very quickly. Eventually, that raccoon ran over two or three stone-fall traps(having run over one before attacking with my military), and it finally died. And nobody decided to butcher it .

Depending on where it died, you might have to turn on outside refuse gathering. I think they ignore corpses on the surface if that's not on; they won't haul those ones down to be butchered. Other than that, just make sure you've got a refuse pile designated somewhere, the butcher shop's up, a butcher ready, and you haven't forbidden the shop. Should work, possibly without the refuse pile, I'unno.
