Let us start out with the wagon?
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:43:00 pm »

Rather then starting us off at the embark point.

Maybe have a different mode where we just start out with a wagon, then we can explorer and find our own fort location.

We start from the mountain dwarf homes... Then we go on from there.

All the same dwarf fortress rules apply, sept everyone stays in the wagon, until the wagon stops and you command them to do a job.

For instance if you want to clear a path of trees / stones, or build a bridge over a canyon.

You can keep exploring with the wagon until you find a good spot, then you settle or some such in that location, then the map reduces too a 3x3 area or whatever you chose, the wagon being in the center.

I've thought about this -- basically, adventure-mode, but building a fortress.  It would be a fairly major project for Toady, but it would be fun.

!Urist was bitten by a rattlesnake!

Exercise the wound?

Apply antiseptic?

Suck out the poison?

You have encountered a river

Caulk the wagon and float?

Ford the water?

Pay the elvish ferry?

Hahah, my thoughts exactly.
Actually I believe the wagon is defined as a creature.

The small wagons are indeed defined as a creature. The large wagons, however, are not.

What small wagons?  Rickshaws?  The only wagons I've seen are the 3x3 version and the three-by-three version.

The starting wagon is a building, far as I can tell, while the moving wagons would logically be the creature Wagon.

They're too aggressive to train, you have to kill them and then drag them around.
