Zombie raccoons just won't die!
« on: April 02, 2010, 10:12:52 pm »

New fort, weak military, got them to engage at least.

3 zombie raccoons start causing trouble at my trade depot. I engage with my 10 military. They're mostly novice immigrants with no equipment, but its just three raccoons, right?

Turns out you can't kill them. A full season of hand-to-hand fighting, and my 15 military dwarves are now mostly elite wrestlers, the raccoons are entirely broken, mangled, and leaking the occasional tooth, but they won't die (de-animate, whatever). I can't seem to get everyone to stop fighting them (always one or two remain, despite all dwarves being inactive on the military screen). People are getting tired/drowsy/hungry/thirsty, and I suspect I'll have people die of this.

How does one kill a DF31 zombie raccoon?

Ps. no magma yet, need to breach a wacky aquifer first.

Update:

Killed 1 (not sure how), managed to undermine one and drop it into a cage trap. One still going strong (fainted and posing no resistance), having dehydrated 2 warriors to death. We're now into the second season.

You are lucky, I had to fight a skeletal troll. ::)

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Ha, you had it easy!

My first 2010 fort I had to fight skeletal and Zombie Elephants. I got one of them, and the rest got board of my dwarves cowering in their hovel, but unfortunately the skeletal Jaguar and zombie fox did for me. Wrestlers just can't seem to finish them off.

Truely terrifying.

My first Fortress had skeletal whales and later a skeletal hydra to deal with.

End result (due to accidental save scum, yay seasonal saves..), 2 dead coons, 1 trapped coon. 3 dead fighters (exaustion), 8 if we went with the version that crashed shortly thereafter. Fight duration: ~4 months.

On the up side, I have gained a huge pile of experience for my fighters. No more are they raw recruits. Kicking a mutilated rodent has honed thier skills to legendary.

I suspect battle axes will do better, what with the severing and all.
