Just a quickie: Kicking and biting in Adventure mode?
« on: April 01, 2010, 01:00:37 pm »

Just got the new version, which is just awesome. But I was just wondering, how can I bite and kick in the adventure mode? When I "strike" the enemies, my human just punches them.

I'm quite confused because there are biting and kicking skills, but I have not seen a way to actually utilize them.

Can I even do that in the adventure mode? Kinda silly that I can pick the skills at start if it's not even possible :P

I believe you have to lose your hands and/or arms to bite and kick.  I remember reading that you strike (punch), then when that's not a possibility, you Kick, and then if THAT is not possible, you Monty Python it and bite their kneecaps off.

I'd do that, but I don't think dwarves have words for "fair" or "logical".

baww :( Would have brought so much more "depth" to unarmed combat. Oh well, I'll just keep strangling them. (funny how you can get to legendary @ wrestling just by strangling a few people to their deaths in DF2010)

Thanks anyway  :)

Found out why, you can mod it.  Here's the snippet from creature_standard.txt in the object raws.

Attack definitions are formatted as follows:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Looks like you want to change ATTACK_PRIORITY on them.

You may try to get both your hands busy, i.e. grab some random appendages, then switch your tactics to strike and maybe the adventurer will use kick or bite.
