My first game in the new version: Contains Spoilers
« on: April 01, 2010, 03:41:30 am »

I will be posting my experiences in the new version here.

"Because I bloody well so say you damn peon, now get to the quartermaster for supplies and assemble a team or else you get to visit the hammerer!" bellowed the King in answer to query as to why I was being sent to establish a outpost of the glorious Dwarven Empire, the Dikes of Planning in the middle of a alligator infested swamp. With a sigh of resignation I carried out his instructions.

The quartermaster was a shady looking fellow, far too keen and with a squint. He tried to trick me into taking some useless newfangled inventions called 'splints' and 'crutches' but I was wise to the tricks of his kind and didn't fall for it. He also tried to trick me into taking some logs of some sort of new breed the planters have come up with, the fungiwood, if you ask me it's just a tower cap with a fancy name. Fortunately my great-grandaddy Demonic Spoon, only survivor of the legendary Sparkgear Fortress, had given me a two day long lecture on what one should take on a doomed expedition to found a fortress in some hellhole. He said:"Boy, you want to take along a pick, a axe, a anvil, a breeding pair of dogs, a breeding pair of dogs, seeds, cave lobsters, meatshields(also known as 'fellow dwarven friends') and as much booze as you can carry when going on a doomed mission to found a new fortress, you got that? Hey! Stop sleeping!". I followed is advice as best I could.

After getting us some supplies I went to select my trusty crew of dwarves that would carve out the greatest fortress that the Wispy Continent had ever seen. I was ...underwhelmed by the choice available to me, a bunch of crazies that needed to get away from civilization for whatever reason.

I picked the most useful ones, once again remembering my great-grandaddy's advice: "Don't ever take a freakin soapmaker boy." .

After a ardous and grueling journey we have arrived here in the swamp of The Poetic Murk! Strike the peat! The glorious fortress of CrowdedCastle begins today! Let us dig lodgings ere the alligators devour us.

Oh yeah, feel free to claim a dwarf everyone, getting lots of migrants.

Map

Ugh, I been here barely a few days and already I hate it, packs of rats scurry all over the place, buzzards fly around and eye our juicy flesh, and I get to slog through muddy peat as I dig our fortress. At least there has been no sightings of alligators yet...

AAAH!! THE REPTILIAN MENACE RUN FOR IT MY FELLOW DWARVES!! THEY WILL DEVOUR OUR SWEET SWEET DWARVENLY FLESH!!

Wait a sec...do they have hair?

Something in the water causing them to mutate perhaps? Another good reason to never touch the stuff.

We have struck gold! Praise the miners!

Not just gold either!

Maybe there was a reason the king sent us to this place.

I have starting carving out a great grand staircase that when completed shall be around 175 urists in depth. Just a scant few years ago something like this would have been impossible, fortunately however there have been many advances in mining technology. I just hope that we will not discover something that should have been best left undiscovered.

Also there seems to be a reptilian 'civilization' around here somewhere, perhaps the alligators are their scouts?

Allow me to be the first to welcome our new hairy lizard overlords.

And since this is the only chance I'll likely get to post anything today:
Rickvoid cancels everything; Dwarfgasm.

Map

The Doom of Crowdedcastle:

Work progresses, the great staircase already reaches deep into the welcoming bosom of the earth.

Huh! What's this? Some sort of large cavern deep within the earth. We shall have to keep our eyes out for monsters, but no matter, the great staircase must continue.

Our watchers have discovered fascinating creatures in the underground cavern. So beautiful and deadly.

Work on the great staircase continues, hopefully there will be noe more unpleasant surpi-

...there sure are a lot of these tihngs.

Noo! We're all doomed! Doomed I tell you!.

The rock has been getting warmer as of late. I fear for what we may discover, but the great staircase must continue. It is a symbol of order, justice, honour and hope in these dark times.

We have discovered the blessed molten blood of the earth in lying a great sea, surrounding the greatest and most blessed of metals, adamantine! Praise the miners! I knew the great staircase wouyld lead to Crowdecastle's glory! We must dig deeper! We must complete the staircase!

This noble miner, he was grievously injured in a fight with the deniszens of the magma and yet his zeal and devotion in the great staircase drives him on with the great work. Truly a example to us all.

What no! It's impossible! Demons are but stories to scare little beardlings! This cannot be! Why!?

Didn't like the site? if this is anything to go by then almost every site is perfect now because they all have magma, underground water, and hfs!

Heheh, this is going to be great.
