Author Topic: Can we require positions to be fulfilled by a certain gender?  (Read 943 times)

I'm creating a matriarchal race where the nobility positions are all filled by women, and wondered if it were possible to prohibit, for example, males becoming Kings (so that the only monarchs are female Queens) while still allowing the queens to have male consorts. Does anyone know how this sort of thing could be done?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, easily. The elves do that already, in fact. Simply add [GENDER:FEMALE] to the appropriate position.

Oh wow, thanks for the quick response! That seems to be pretty much the thing I needed.

Darn, I was hoping for a way to keep women out of the military.

You can - just add [GENDER:MALE] to all military positions. It'll be bigoteriffic!

(though there is an actual basis for keeping women out of the military due to baby-surfing and whatnot.)

Hey, don't knock baby shields!

You have to knock them. Dwarvern babies need to be tempered in battle - like steel, or they just grow up to be regular humans.
And it keeps the population down. If infant mortality wasn't so high, they'd outnumber the adults in a few years.

That doesn't completely work, though, since the rank-and-file soldiers aren't positions. You can prevent women from becoming officers, but not soldiers.

Note: I am fairly certain that Fortress Mode does not respect gender tags in positions whatsoever. I am working on a new Drow Fortress for the latest version in my spare time and having GENDER:FEMALE seems to have no effect in fortress mode; expedition leader equivalent with GENDER:FEMALE can still be randomly chosen by a male, and other positions with gender tags can still be given to any gender.

It does, however, affect who can be chosen for AI positions in adventurer/legends mode.

Shouldn't be much of a problem, really. Any noble who isn't an actual historical figure -- and therefore bound by the civ tags -- can be appointed by the player, who is free to discriminate in whatever way he or she chooses.
