Rumors of my death(s) have been greatly exaggerated.
« on: March 26, 2010, 09:42:58 am »

So.  I keep getting the "No one considered traveling to your deathtrap" message, despite my relatively low casualty rate.  I lose roughly 2 dwarves a year.  I'm in the 11th year.  5 years ago, I lost 40 dwarves to a simultaneous Human / Dragon siege.

Has anyone else experienced a problem with very low casualty forgiveness?

Have you lost any nobles? They count for more.

Has your fort increased in wealth since the deaths? I wonder if that is related.

The dragon and the siege could also be factors in increasing the danger level, even if temporarily.

On my current fort, due to a clerical error I forgot to set my population cap to 50 and ended up with enough dwarves to summon a Baron. I rectified the problem but the Baron showed up anyways, along with his usual retinue. Since I really didn't want to deal with his BS I used DC to port him, his consort and the tax collector into my volcano. I did it again the next year when their replacements arrived. Since then I'm getting the "death trap" mention when migrants would show up, even though they won't because I turned the cap to 50.

So yeah, nobles count a large amount towards your migration count.

Tolkien had a great secret: The dwarves of Moria didn't dig too deep. A prominent dwarf with lots of friends started tantruming and, well, you figure out what happened next.

Do appointed nobles count?  The siege murdered four successive Captains of the Guard.  It was unhealthy for my population's food supply and drink, though all of these problems have been rectified.

I don't think so, no.
