Just as the title says.
I want to make full plate armor for my Swordsdwarfs, but I can't find any ores.
Any help?

You can't mod bone, but you can mod plate. Go into item_armor, find the plate mail entry, and add [BARRED] somewhere. Now you can make bone or shell plate armor at your craftsdwarf's workshop.

It might take more than 1 stack of bones/shells per suit of armor, but I'm not sure how many.

I think [BARRED] lets it be made out of bone, while [SCALED] is what allows shells to be used.

I'm not altogether certain, but won't modding the item raws require a regen?  Doesn't that invalidate the original point of being able to give your dwarves armour despite your lack of ores?

Not if all you're doing is modifying a preexisting entry. If you added a bone to bone smelter reaction that'd require a new gen, but just adding tags to armor won't.
