Sometimes you feel like a bonehead.

I just dug out a 20x20 room in solid obsidian with my legendary miners... because I needed space for a stone stockpile for all the obsidian I have laying about. :-X

Well stick a mason's workshop in there, and make some nice doors?

Pave the floor with rough obsidian? ;D

Its something I often do when I have a ton of rocks with nothing to do with them.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The only option is obsidian swords. You can store these in wooden bins until your brave soldiers decide to store them in the head of an unwanted elven visitor instead.

Holy schist, this thread is mica me sick.
DF Players never truly leave.  They just abandon the fortress for a few years and then reclaim.

Build a magma dispenser device and add branches to it as needed, meaning whenever you dig out a large room and want to use it for something else except a large room full of rocks.

Bonus points if you don't have any fail-safe systems for keeping the magma flowing out of the room, or keeping dwarves from deciding that all that molten obsidian has to be cleaned.

You have a few options. Magma or atom smashers will take care of the obsidian. So will a chasm, if you have one. You could mass produce obsidian goods and send them away with the trade caravans. Or you could dig out some new storage with unskilled miners.
