Comcast, free Macafee no longer. Norton instead.
« on: March 14, 2010, 01:23:22 pm »

For awhile, Comcast distributed Macafee free to all its customers.

My mom dowloaded and installed macafee on this computer and everything was fine for awhile.

But now, apparently, I have untill May 12 to install Norton.

Is Norton still the bloated piece of sh*t I remember?

Yes. Get AVG Free Edition.

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

I thought Avast was even better anyway?  I got a free version through the Kim Kommando site.

I assume he means that he has to install it by that deadline in order to get it free. At least, I hope that's what he means. :o

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

Unless the software completely turned around in the past year you should avoid that crap. I cannot think of any redeeming feature of that software and many features that are major problems. One of such features is the fact that it never goes away. The uninstaller is a piece of crap that keeps large chunks of the software on your computer in a usable state, if the uninstaller even decides to work.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I say go for it if the Norton's is more than just an anti-virus and has the firewall bundled into it.

Norton's has got a lot better over the past few years, it's more light weight than before. Also if you do decide to uninstall it then use the Norton removal tool from the website rather than add/remove programs. It will actually remove all traces of it.

First ten minutes of play I ate my loincloth and then got some limbs torn off by a super friendly rat. Thumbs up from me.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials, having moved from a combo of Spybot and AVG. Have to say, I'm extremely impressed. Scan times are down from 3+ hours to 20 minutes and it picks up things both of them missed.

And it's free.
