Bathhouses, saunas, hot springs!
« on: March 12, 2010, 01:40:06 pm »

Such things should be feasible in future versions of DF, eventually.

The only thing I can think to add, other than that it sounds neat to me, is that doctors should recognize hypothermia and frostbite and treat it with a trip to the hot spring (if available).

Well, as I recall you don't just dump a victim into the heat. It needs to be taken slow to avoid damage.

I do wonter how non-melee damage will be addressed by Doctors; poisons, heat, cold, etc. Surely you can't put a splint on a frozen finger and make it better, and no number of sutures can restore an eye.

You could generate a sauna-effect even in the current version though. Build one over a magma pipe, with grates in the floor, a layer under that bearing water, and grates below that would drop the water into the center of the magma pipe. The cooled obsidian would plummet off through the bottom of the map, and steam would be generated.

It would probably carry the warm temperature with it too... the problem is, steam at present is treated the same as collapsing debris, and would knock dwarves unconscious. This would make it rather limited in use, unless you wanted to make it a Sauna Trap. :P

Saunas have come up a lot.
As have bathhouses.
And hot springs.

As it says at the top of the forum, please search before posting a suggestion.

Steam has never worked that way, as it's one of the special hardcoded flows.  The new material  flows did that for a while, but it's fixed now.

I'd just be happy with partially excavated tiles. So I could make a wading pool that has a 3/7 stone floor and 4/7 water deep.

Given that dwarves can't swim, and easily drown in even the smallest pond, I don't know if bath houses would really be their thing :P. Bathing in wooden "tubs", sure, but a whole bath house?

Spirits can fly but would a fire/magma man be sufficiently hot to evaporate water? An abstracted bath house with magma under the floor and steam vents from underneath would make a nice megaproject even if the dwarves aren't smart enough to get naked in the designated meeting area
