I hate lagers, and especially carbonated stuff.  I love all ales, and normally the darker the better.  Gimme a beer I can chew.

In medieval times, it literally was liquid beer.
People drank pretty much only beer, because:
a) It's more nutritious than water
b) It's less likely to be infested with all kinds of bacteria etc.

I doubt very much that this was affordable to the point of drinking beer instead of water. In fact, the German purity laws apparently appeared in order to control how much of the harvest went to make beer.

It was probably still safer than drinking water in a lot of places because of poor sanitation. The boiling of water involved in brewing is a good start. And I'm pretty sure alcohol is toxic to some water borne nasties.

No, I tell you - it was a staple food. Those beers wouldn't have the same alcohol content than modern beers, though. Early middle ages beer were very strong, but then, water was reasonably pure still.
As the ages continued, beer became a low-alcohol, nutritious, healthier alternative to water.
Because water was likely to be infested with legionella, the plague, and the tanning soup from the tanner next door.

Beer is boiled during production, pretty continously. Also, those people knew what they were doing.

The Sam Adams is excellent, good enough to be a solid benchmark to compare other types of beer to. Before, I had to compare to Budweiser, which seems to be the 'average' kind of low quality beer. Sam Adams boston lager will come in as an upper end of a 'medium' beer, and I'm excited on what to try next.

I must say I still seem to enjoy hard liquor more so far, maybe both liquor and beer is an acquired taste. I'm quite partial to Jack, but that may be because it was my first time and I have some good memories tied to the times I drink it compared to other ones.

Popov, Absolut, and VSOP, a kind of 80p brandy, seems to be the culprit of my newest hyjinks. I seem to be more of a hard liquor person than a beer person. I find I can drink hard liquor faster than beer, even if it's mixed with soda. Sam Adams boston lager seemed to be okay, but it filled me up quicker than than most types of liquor. I may just naturally be a hard liquor kind of person. Who knows. It's just a shame my drinking partner at the moment is a male . Hopefully next time that will change

You don't drink beer to get drunk fast, you drink beer because it's good and you can drink more of it before dying from alcohol poisoning.


I prefer guinness myself, though it's a bit expensive given my complete and utter lack of money. Now, Miller High Life is less than half the price, and tastes like Cheerios in carbonated liquid form. As a result, I can only conclude that it is part of a balanced breakfast. :3

A couple days ago, I had a beer called Dale's Pale Ale.  40-proof beer, same as whiskey but it tastes like ale.  I've never been drunk on one glass of beer, but be damned if I didn't get close with that.

Whiskey is 80 proof. 40 proof would be more in the range of fortified wine or something.

Don't know. Really, the only good things I can say about it are that it's cheap as hell, and doesn't taste bad. It's better than any wine I've ever had, and is a nicer drink than soda or water, but when it comes down to it it's just fizzy, vaguely cereal-flavored water that gives you a mild buzz. :/

Guinness, on the other hand, tastes great. It's also more than twice the price of MHL. D:

Budweiser I've only had once, and it only beat out the homemade swill I made back in highschool (only did that once, because of just how horrible it was, also leaking containers and whatnot... did I mention what wretched swill it was?) because it wasn't full of slime. Which puts it at about the same level as half the wine/champagne I've tried.


Haven't tried many different beers, to tell the truth. I need to get off my ass and get a driver's license so I have an ID. :/

I haven't been to a pub in a month D:
I'm usually there at least once a week, and they always have 6 guest ales and three guest ciders. Damn its a good pub. They also have a massive selection of beer from different countries, especially Belgium, for obvious reasons.
I'd have to say that I do prefer stouts and porters, although I'll drink pretty much anything as long as someone gave a damn making it.

Once the middle of March comes around, I'll have to be done with any type of drinking.

One of my roommates used to get really fucked up on anti-anxiety medication and alcohol, and if I am going to see if that medication helps, I'm staying far away from alcohol.

I don't understand how you can develop an addiction to the stuff, unless you centered your social life and entertainment around bars and drinking

We have some decent beers down in Australia. I'm partial for Cascade as I quite enjoy it.


Fosters tastes like watered-down horse piss though. Don't even ask me how I know the taste of that as I've no idea.

according to snews paper reports in uk one of the governments national debt tackling strategies is to put an up to £8 ($13) tax rise on spirits.

I feel persecuted, what have i done to diserve this. I may have to consume more beer instead of whiskey
