That's called bad game design.

I think this is probably more a balance thing than anything.  Look how two marines cooperating can dominate deathmatch.  Imagine 16 against AI aliens.

They have every possible lane of fire covered, including some that only exist in theoretical dimensions, 100-round clips.  16 guys would be unstoppable.  Even a queen couldn't take more than a few seconds of 16 pulse rifles and grenade launchers.

It seems like they nerfed aliens to an extreme. They should allow 16 player coop - except as the round goes on, things like - the lights going out or holes opening in the ground-alien matter walls would make it necessary to cover all angles. Then they throw predators at you.

Yeah, Marines are a gank class, with their low HP and hellish damage output.  A predator can get numerous kills on them with one disk, if he's good, but a large marine squad can basically extend a sphere of lead around themselves that nothing can hope to penetrate.  It totally neutralizes the other races' melee advantage.  If you want to really challenge a marine force, you have to have a network of tunnels and a timed search mission, so they have ten guys and have to search five tunnels and their objective is in one of those tunnels, with their success dependent on how fast they can search.  If all they have to do is fortify and rack up kills, then they're unbeatable.

That or a defence mission with multiple equipment points that need to be defended. Life support, Engine room, etc. It's a good way to force a group of marines to split up to cover the multiple defense points.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

They do indeed, but ammo respawns. At least, on most maps I've seen (Which is pretty much all of them) it does.

I've found that marines are stupidly overpowered if you're aware of you're surroundings and with like two other guys.

Aliens are stupidly overpowered if you make full use of the jumping around and sprint transitions. So hard to aim at.

Predators are stupidly overpowered if you can make use of your advantage with stealth and can collect weapons.

In finishing, all the classes are really good against every other class if you know how to use them. I also think that the fast aiming was done on purpose, because they want you to feel like the panicked marine rookie and not the slowly advancing machine of precise death.
