How does the Mayday pack allow for coloured backgrounds?
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:09:13 am »

Is it a function of the image file the graphics come from?  Or the code for the graphics?  I'm wondering if it's something I can replicate in Photoshop, Paint, or Notepad.

The image file is a *.png with transparency (only usable by 40d16 upwards if i recall it correctly). The background of the letters and symbols is a slightly transparent shade of gray, I think - that's what causes the effect.

Yeah, that's how it works. The next version of my tileset is using the same technique.

Ah, thanks for the information.  I've had... minor experience with PNG transparencies in the past, I might be able to monkey with other sets to get the same effect.  I'm one of those guys who relies on bright, vibrant graphics.
