A *gasp* non-useless migrant!
« on: February 23, 2010, 02:46:46 am »

So migrants are coming.

One of them, a craftsdwarf, took about 3 steps onto the map and immediatly mooded.

Strange, seeing as I have a 40 dwarf fortress at the moment I would have thought that some of the other dwarves would have been able to mood, that is, unless this really is just a hell random chance thing.

this

once you meet the requirements for moods, any of your dorfs can get a mood, children, peasants, migrants not 3 steps on to the map...

I don't recall if it's weighted towards more skilled dorfs or not, but any* dorf can get a mood

*not including certain lazy good for nothings that just sit around all day demanding materials that can't be found on your map...

Babies and military dwarves can't mood. Also, the dungeon master can't, and he has a job.

Just out of curiosity, what DOES Dwarf Fortress smell like?
Death, Booze, and Insanity.
Ladders are absolutely essential for one reason and one reason only:

Welcome, friends to Slaves to Armok III: Snakes and Ladders.

Soldiers can't mood, but recruits can.

!!Elves!! would actually be kinda cool as a civ symbol.  !!Clowns!!, however, you get the impression they're on fire of their own free, malicious, evil, will.

Also, much scarier if literally clowns.

I had my expedition leader (armorsmith) mood right in the middle of the first immigration wave.  Luckly, I had bought an anvil and already dug out my magma workshop.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.
