Argh... Why... JAVA?

*shrugs*

Its platform independent, fairly universal around OSs. Dicking around solo, it doesnt have seeming render lag for placing objects on the game grid.

Give it a shot.

Or did I miss read this and you dont have java?

Of course I do have Java, but other languages are also multiplatform and not incredible CPU hoes.

Most other languages are not multi-platform in the same way Java is.  And, as with all languages, it depends on the quality of the code as to how efficiently resources are used.

Now I will certainly agree that in general, and all things being equal, Java is more resource intensive than some other languages, but it's not that bad.

As for Vassal, it's pretty lightweight as far as resource needs go. Java wasn't even using 3% of one of my processors' cycles while I was running Vassal.  That compares very well with what Firefox uses.

I'm up for it right now, bro.

If I can find a module for it on the site...

I can't seem to get it to run. Whenever I open a module, it says the heap size is too large (even when I set it to 3 MB initial and 4 max), then locks up.

Does anyone play the game this engine was originally created for - Advanced Squad Leader?

It was at LosCon in the gaming room. Never owned a copy.

Played a lot of great games there.  The rule book probably exist online. Wikibooks is pretty decent about that.

Speaking of, I know where to get the rules for Imperial Twillight, a conquer the galaxy with secret objective game.

Oh, no, you misunstand me. I actually own the rulebook, the game, most all the expansions, and play as often as I can. I just constantly look for new people to play against  :)
