I have a duo 2.0 GHz, 1 Gb RAM, Vista 32bit.

My 4*4 fort with 80 dwarves, no animals, no water, and a magma pipe ran around 40-50 FPS, except 10-20 during sieges. A 6*6 with 80 dwarves, 20 or so animals, a brook, and magma ran around 20-30.

I'd expect that you could get 50-70 FPS on a 6*6 with 100 dwarves and 40 or so animals, without lots of running fluids. Probably 40-50 if you add lots of moving fluids.

Try turning off weather for a 5-15 boost in FPS. Be sure to check out the Wiki article on <a href="http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Maximizing_framerate>maximizing framerate[/url].

I'm guessing this has a story behind it :D?
Not personally.
Breaking even one of the thousands of pins on today's CPU heads is quite easy to do and kills the processor though, and would be extremely likely if you install the CPU wrong.
