Plays
« on: February 23, 2010, 03:50:06 pm »

I went to see Amadeus by Peter Shaffer last night. I've seen only two serious plays up until now (The first being Fiddler on the Roof), both were incredible. It was played by actors from the Israeli Cameri Theater, which is considered the best theater in Israel. Amadeus is based loosely about Mozart's life and his relationship with Antonio Salieri. The play has some of Mozart's greatest works in it (His Requiem, for example), and the story comes together quite nicely with these little pieces of music.
So friends (Comrades?), as you all know (or don't know), I'm terrible at closing up my posts, so... lets... umm, discuss plays. Anything you've been too, enjoyed, or didn't enjoy, lets discuss it here.

I've only seen a bit of Waiting for Godot but now I want to see the whole thing.

Also, the Hamlet with David Tenant was Epic with a capital E, so there's another thing I want to see on stage.

Amadeus is an amazing play. Death of a Salesman might be my favourite though.

My favorite rendition of Hamlet was with an all female cast, and not just because of the tits. As you may or may not know, actors back in da day, were all males. It was a reversal on that.

Phantom of the Opera was pretty good, as was the Nut Cracker. The scene change to go to the scale of the toy was really nice.

Micro Shapespear is really fun with the proper troop to do it. To Tame a Shrew was good, and Midsummer Night Dream was really fun.

Little Shop of Horror was fairly good, and has a stark ending to that of the movie.

I've seen lots, especially at college where it was kind of cool that I knew a lot of the actors. Plus lots of Shakespeare.

I like Hamlet and Macbeth a lot, and some Shakespeare comedies are pretty entertaining. Some of the ones I've seen at college were great, like Medea, Death and the Maiden, Iolanthe, Fuddy Meers, My Name is Rachel Corrie, and man, why can I not remember more of these?

I also took an acting class and my final project was to act out a scene from Death and the Maiden opposite some girl who didn't give a shit and would never show up to practice, which was a PITA. I also remember grousing at the professor because my character talked the way an overeducated person writes, throwing around words like "venal" in an argument with his wife.

Plays I've hated with a passion include Death of a Salesman, Dead Man's Cell Phone, and I guess The Great Gatsby wasn't a play, but I hated that too. Also I don't care for Romeo and Juliet.

We read R&J in class last year. I found the story rather silly, but that's just me. Amadeus still keeps running through my head, that play was simply awesome. The ending was sad, and the way the whole thing was put together was amazing. I need to see another, maybe The Nutcracker. I also really recommend Fiddler on the Roof, it was also really, really good.

Fiddler is great, and its movie adaptation is a wonderful and beloved movie classic.
