Two questions related to booze and it's storage.
« on: February 24, 2010, 01:12:21 pm »

Ok, first of all I have given my dwarves [SPEED:1] and witht this I have over 2000 food, and I'm still at my starting 7. Most of this food is collected by my fisherdwarf and herbalist. The problem is I can't make barrels fast enough (Even with [SPEED:1]) and only 40 of my 2000 is booze. So my dwarves go and store food in the barrels before I can use them for booze. How do I stop them from using barrels for anything except booze?

Also if I cheat some more and remove [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT] will they no longer require booze? As I understand it they will still drink any if it's available, but they'll have no problem with water. Also, would it come into effect without me needing to start a new world?

Cheating is fun ;D

EDIT:: I have used the forbid/unforbid thing right before my brewer is going to make the booze, but even then my dwarves move so damn fast that the haulers  grab the barrels before my  brewer... ...there was also one time when my own brewer picked up the barrel to put food into.

The settings on the food stockpile should have something about maximum barrels. If you set that to 0 on a non-booze stockpile and make a booze-only stockpile that still accepts them, that should do the trick.

Even simpler, there's an option somewhere to reserve a certain amount of barrels for things that really need them, but I can't remember how to do that.

That would be as deadly to the wielder as to anyone else!  You'd sever your own arm at the first swing!  It's perfect!

You have to "q" the stockpile I think, and use the /* and -+ for bins and barrels.

Or while you are creating it, one of those two.

The benefits of shoving food into barrels has never seemed worth it to me.

Just built a bigger darn "Food only - no drinks!" stockpile and forbid barrels on it. And make a separate "Drinks!" stockpile.

It's not "q", it's the stockpile designator screen, "p".
