4 Adventure mode questions...
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:13:31 pm »

First: How do I fill water skins? I've tried picking up the water with "g" from the bank of a murky pool, and from the top of a brook, I've used the "l" menu and gone down a level, I've tried  both inventory menus ("i", and "I"). I know that I have an empty water skin, I bought 2 extra, and I still have the full one from the start, and an other full one I found.

Second: How do I eat and drink? To get rid of thirst (food hasn't come up) I've just been "T"raveling, but that is annoying when I'm deep in a cave, and it feels cheap. Again, I've tried all the obvious controlls, both when I had the thirst icon and when I didn't.

Third: I'm a wrestler, and have been kicking ass, but how do I break bones/joints I understand that the option shows up when you grab something, but the only options I get are pinch, strangle(Throat), and gouge(head). Tho, I have only ever fought rats, moles, and one ratman. Why can't I break things?

Four: Whats the best item to throw? My guy is only a wrestler so far, but I've been trying to start my fights with thrown objects, mostly rocks, but I did use a dagger once.

1) I'm reasonably sure you can't actually do it, though I seem to remember a minor glitch where you could pick up units of water and stick them in your backpack.  You can also find alcohol and stick that in your backpack.

2) 'e' is the eat/drink command in DF Adventure.  As you've noticed, traveling relieves all hunger/thirst issues.  It also cures any and all injuries except amputations.

3) Not sure.  I personally prefer killing things as fast as <insert race here>ly possible.

4) I don't think it matters at this point.  Projectiles are just obscenely powerful.  You can one-shot that dragon just as easily with a pebble as you can an arrow, sock, or hand.  Projectiles in general are just stupidly broken strong at this point.

The wiki entry on 'Adventure Mode' would probably help you a lot.  It's a fairly comprehensive description of how to handle the mode.  There's also an Adventure Mode Quick Reference that will help you tremendously.

Here I enter on my golden unicorn and with a single wave of my fire sword I kill the !!confusion!! ;D :
1) Stand in a brook/be in water. Shift+i -> waterskin -> fill
2) "e"
3) Grab and lock limbs with your hand, then proceed to cripple appropriate joints. Note that original DF has joints only for humanoids and not for all. Note that most of my mods have joints for quadruped, birds etc. (and for neck/jaw, I like to break a wolf's jaw) :).
4) You can't be as effective with "blunt" objects (note: all generic items, hammers, maces) as with piercing items. Piercing projectiles get a hardcoded critboots -> they have much higher chance to pierce vital organs. You can throw 10 pebbles with no luck, but 10 arrows will definitely pierce a lot of organs. Also slashing projectiles (swords, axes, serrated discs) are nice too because with a high skill of throwing you will dismember opponents with them.

You can only break limbs on humanoids. Grab a limb, get 'em in a joint lock and SNAP!
