The window doesn't refresh on a remote desktop
« on: February 17, 2010, 06:59:10 am »

Hi, being a fan of DF, especially with an incoming of a new version, I decided to play the game from work at home via RAdmin (my laptop is too small for this game, you know :) ). And all I could see was the window frame with a part of that desktop in. Looks like it does not refresh itself for RAdmin to send a picture through net. The question is: are there any clues to fix this up? And if there are not, will it be fixed in some future versions?
I want it a lot. :)

What version are you using?  40d16 and 40d17 have a better chance of working.  Also, somebody made a utility for playing DF over SSH, which is a much more elegant solution than remote desktop.

Both versions are broken, that's why I didn't mark it. :)
And thanks a lot for utility. I think it will be a solution.

It's probably because Dwarf Fortress uses OpenGL for rendering, which uses hardware acceleration and might not be visible to other applications (as can also happen with some media players).

Have you tried using 40d17 with one of the 2D modes?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Yeah, I've found a way. But a server-client technology still holds my mind :)
Utility been told above is not a solution by the way. It's for Linux as I can see, and DF is set on my Windows desktop. :)
So if anyone can help me with some other similar stuff - my gratitude will have no borders. :)
I've checked old utility: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=1315, but it didn't work either.
