What's wrong with my pump?

Nothing to See here, please move along.

So Ledi's been training the cats into an army of disposable warbeasts?  Why did no-one think of this sooner?!
Hellcannon seemed to be constantly on the verge of death and Levergedon before my turn helped, but ultimately what killed it was Ledi's cat army.

I'm seeing two immediate possibilities here. From the screenshot things are fine, which means something is wrong outside the screenshot: First, doublecheck that your pump operators have the pump operating labour set on - I imagine you've checked this, though, since you set them to have nothing else to do. Which leads to the more likely cause, which is that they can't access the pumps. I'm gonna guess you were digging with ramps or something similar (ramps have all kinds of wacky rules), but regardless, try using the 'x' menu to station a soldier there. If the soldier can't walk there, there's an access problem, and you can slowly move the soldier in that direction until you find what the problem is.

Um... as a last-ditch third option, make sure the pump is set to "Stop pumping manually" - it's hard to tell that that means "the dwarves are currently pumping manually and will stop if you change this setting," and vice-versa for the 'start' setting. If that all fails, you might want to upload your map to the DFMA and myself or someone else could take a closer look.

Thanks, I'm trying this now. Pump operating is definitely on for both of them (it's the only thing active)

There's no ramps at all in the area (I... get confused by ramps. I'm kind of noobish)

I'll try the options though, and thanks for trying to help. ^^

Edit: Dwarves can happily stand on the pump. Hmm...

Huh. That's pretty odd then. The only thing I can think of is that the materials the pump is comprised of are at least partially forbidden, likely by a sweeping d-b-f grid. Hit 't' to see if the materials in the pump have those little pointy brackets on them, which would cause the building to be unuseable. If that fails, the last thing that comes to mind is sending in a soldier, locking the door behind him, and then deactivating him and tuning on pump operating until something works.

You didn't accidentally forbid the pump or the materials it's made of, did you?

Argh.... yeah, I think I know what happened. I was trying to stop dwarves from picking up the rock in front of where magma would be pumped... so I forbid them... and yeah... I'm a noob. Sorry for wasting your time.  :-X
