processes in task manage
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:31:58 pm »

Some of the processes in my task manager get CPU usage spikes. Mainly ccSvcHst and svcHost

Is it safe to just end these?

Some svchost processes can be closed, but if you kill the main one it'll crash the computer.

There's a memory leak associated with that, which is probably your problem, google it and you can find a fix.

Yeah, it lost me at how to identify processes for XP. As long as they are for windows and not left over background processes

Hehe, my sister ended svchost a couple months ago for the same reason. She learned not to do that again. :P
In general, don't mess with processes... The potential headaches are way bigger than the potential 5 CPU cycles you may get out of it.

I find that disabling everything in the startup tab of msconfig reduces the number of processes to an acceptable level.
