I didn't think about it before, but what about working in a forge or something? Modern foundry workers wear lots of protective clothing, and though the best Dwarves have is leather, they should still probably wear it when tending the magma forges.

Animal handlers and tool users would all wear leather gloves and maybe leather pants. Miners, cerpanters, and architects would all wear helmets.

Heck, the whole fortress is one giant work site. Everyone should be required by Dwarven law to wear at least a copper helmet.

Heavy clothing or fur clothing isn't implemented. So you'd have to simulate it on glaciers by wearing leather over the cloth.

So ideally everyone would wear gloves and helmets, people working outside might have other leather pieces for warmth, while the best armor would be worn by hunters and the military.

Slow walking speed is kinda weak... I meant a slow working speed.

Though wearing armor isn't all that great anyhow.
