Feeding the fish
« on: February 04, 2010, 02:39:03 am »

In my last fort, the main entrance trap redirectss a large amount of river into a labyrinth and then it releases it outside the map limit.

During its usage I discovered many fish got trapped inside (and even seemed to attack the orcs but I'm not sure because they were drowning anyway). Which made me ask myself (and now you):

How would you prepare a carp/salmon pool, ready to feed the fish with invaders/nobles and then fish the fish and recover the bones/skulls of both fish and invaders?

The answer surely involves magma, I'm just not sure how

I'm not going to try to make a diagram (I'm reeeeally bad at them), but you could maybe make your enterance go under a carp-infested river, with an open area below for water exiting. Channel out the floor and replace it with grates or hatches or whatever, but the basic idea is that you drop a river on your enemies, then air-drown any surviving fish.

Of course the natural flaw in this plan is the distinct and noted lack of magma.

Drop goblins into carp pool. Pump water out, and I believe the fish go with it. Get items, pump water back in.
I could be wrong about the fish thing though, so you might have to put more fish in it every time it's used. Still not very complicated.

You dump them into a pond? Dump them in magma.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

1) Lure Orcs/goblines/elves/humans/nobles/that annoying dwarf who just won't shut up, into drowning chamber.

2) Pour in 3-4/7ths of carp water into drowning chamber.

3) Fill it if they don't die.

4) Air drown those damned carps.

5) Once you finish recovering the loot flood it with magma to clean up and then drain.

You now have a drowning chamber with magma in use, you may all bow!
