The Helmet Warrior

I currently have a dwarf in a squad who is currently dual-wielding steel helms! Does this affect his damage output or armor?

Same goes for shields, if a dwarf carried a few shields, would he get benefit from more than one?

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

He is currently fighting with a shield, helm left hand and hammer, helm right hand. I'd like to think when he's wrestling he's using the helmets as boxing gloves

Nickname him Helm Hammerhand.

Tolkien was certainly thinking about this dwarf when he wrote his books...

Well, more then one thing in one hand is generally bad, but I guess it really depends which ones they actually use, if any.  I have personally seen things get splattered by either a chainmail or helmet, and if they block shots with an extra baby they have on hand I don't see why they wouldn't use an item or whatever.
