a challange of sorts, or just an insane idea,
« on: January 24, 2010, 07:36:43 pm »

I thought of the idea of digging down, and try to find that darn daemon pit thingy, then redirect a river through it. After all it's a cold day when hell floods over.

The big problem about this, well it's not a walk in the park trying to find that damned thing.

It would be hilarious if you could get a dwarf messiah to turn water into booze and use that to food with instead.

I believe someone's done this - to beautiful results, in fact. It's one of the top-favourited maps on the DFMA, I'll go grab the link and edit it in once I've found it.

Relicrags. The link goes to the POI marking the pits, and river's end.

very interesting, certainly a challenge to try soon. I've always wondered how easy it would be to just cave it in?

Fairly easy, actually, if you do it right.

IIRC, SoF evaporate water near them instantly, so a river wouldn't do much good against them.

Well if COD players all have ADHD, and Minecrafters autism, then what do DF players all have?

Well, as it happens, I have a setup to do that right this moment.

It's a little anticlimatic. All it does is drain the underground river into the adjacent demon pit, muddy the engravings, and move around a dead guy's underwear.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

hmm, my memories of when i researched this with the aim of creating awesome anti hfs traps was -

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

cavein dust will knock them unconcious, and allow you to cage them. which is harder to do then it sounds. they can make for some really entertaining anti goblin measures, and you can sell them to the elves for profit. sof with their burn-anything-one-tile-away can be used for some pretty neat stuff. getting any of them chained up may be a challenge though. i use them as animal disposal, cautously, as horses, cows and camels can kill anything if there are enough of them.

Just be careful that dwarves carrying a caged SoF might have their clothes catch fire. Those things are hotter than Sun's surface!

I believe that flooding with pressursed magma works, it kills all but the spirist of fire and they get washed down into that underworld/pit thingy that the megademon comes out of.

No, they don't. Dwarves starve to death in cages.

No, they die of dehydration, and that's only your own dwarves, hunger still wont affect them.
What he means is, it stops all of their effects, they do nothing at all, SoF can't ignite their wooden cage or anything around them, though they may still provoke unhappy thoughts.
