Number of bedrooms
« on: January 26, 2010, 01:29:27 pm »

I've come up with a semi-modular bedroom design that I'm going to build into my fortress. For aesthetic reasons I want to have a whole number of modules. My popcap is 200, I currently have 150 dwarves including infants, and no FPS problems. Bearing in mind that this doesn't include noble quarters, and is the standard bed cabinet coffer door arrangement, should I build 176 bedrooms or 208?

I'd say 208, so you can account for any kids that grow up in the fort

Don't married couples share a bed?

If you plan for everybody to have a room (no one sleeping in the barracks or shared beds), just build 208... the popcap is a soft limit anyway, so there's no guarantee you'll have a maximum of 200 dwarves. It could even happen that you have 199 dwarves (still under the popcap) and the next migration wave brings another 20, bringing you well over the limit. And don't forget children; they are not stopped by the popcap.

As for married couples: They do share a bed, but I think, they still own both rooms, only really using one.
