Let's Watch The 10th Kingdom
« on: January 13, 2010, 09:21:32 pm »

The 10th Kingdom.  One of my favorite movies right now.  I'm going to do a film review of it, not all at once though, hah!  For those they do not know, one of my first avatars before Homestuck things was the lovable trolls of The 10th Kingdom.  This movie is also 8 hours long pretty much.  I'm doing this in sections, totally.  Anyway, on with the review!  The first Part ah ho!

The cover:

Yes that is the twin towers.  9/11 be damned this movie gots balls.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Let's play this shinding.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The opening, see the twin towers?  Yeah.  Heh.  Less images from now on.

The whole intro is just New York turning into some fantasy place, woop woop.  Water and tress everywhere and stuff.  Then it pans out to reveal this,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
God this is going to take awhile.  Oh well.  It'll give me a reason to watch this again for the millionth time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Alright, so here's the main protagonist, Virginia Lewis.  She lives with here Dad, Tony Lewis.  They live on the edge of the forest, I mean, central park.  Her Dad only has the apartment because he works there.  Virginia wants to make something of her live, but it looks impossible.  Hmmmm, time for a movie, eh?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

She gets her bike for her waiter job and heads to the elevator...to meet her Dad fixing it.  Hehehe.  He's been drinking.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He's using a screwdriver to make the elevator go down.

ADRUPT SCENE SHIFT.

AHH BIRD EATING A DEAD DUDE IN A CELL.

*ahem*

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Ah, that makes sense.  We're in The 4th Kingdom now.  Whatever that means.  Also note you will never see those time stamps again, maybe the director thought they were stupid.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A guard in the prison thinks he hears something, but it's probably nothing.
He says, "WHO'S THERE?" anyway, maybe the sneaky person would give themselves away because of his booming voice?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
That dude just go TROLLED to the max.  The Troll King appears to have something that makes him invisible.  He also has girly pink dust that makes people fall asleep.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Totally not girly, no way.  WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE PINK?
Anyway, he's going to rescue his stupid 3 children again.  Although, we a treated to a scene shift to The Prince and his servant dude Giles.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Excuse me, this is the last time the time stamps are used, for real.  I mean seriously, 1 minute time difference?  The guy was right about removing them.

A VERY happy Prince,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Giles, the dead man walking,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Prince is a whiny brat that is spoiled to death.  He keeps complaining to Giles why he has to go to his step-mothers again and again.  The Prince's step-mother is in prison for killing his parents and almost him.  The Queen has some parole thing again and they have to reject it again for some reason.  The Queen is a very evil lady that is only referred to as The Queen and any other name is useless.  She is in the Snow White's prison right now, which Giles and Prince are going to.

Oh, and Prince is having a incarnation soon.  Something to do with royalty.  Not important right now.

Scene changing to The Troll King opening the door to his childrens' cell.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
They are terrified of their Father.  They know he will be very angry they got caught, AGAIN.
From left to right,
Bluebell, Blabberwort, and Burly.

Burly gets nervous and tells his Dad to take off the magic shoes, the shoes are making him invisible.

He actually takes them off.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The shoes make you drunk when you take them off, I expect the children will receive beatings like usual.

SCENE CHANGE BACK TO THE MAIN CHARACTERS

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Tony has a drunk rant about how he has to work for scraps and gains nothing.  How America's economy will shoot down like no tomorrow.  This was 2000.

Virginia doesn't care at all.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Oh shit the boss just walked in.  HIDE THE BEER.

I fear the child, that stare....THOSE EYES.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Boss:  I have been calling this elevator for the last half hour, I thought you fixed it!
Tony: Well I did sir, but it's broken again.
 ::)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Virginia leaves for her job.
The Boss told Tony to like revamp the whole apartment complex with a toothbrush.  Tony is also very angry.

BACK TO THE TROLLS

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Trolls make there way out of the prison, but The Queen uses the force and calls The Troll King towards her.  He is pretty weak-minded.
Maybe he wants to do the sex a sex.  He smiles when he hears her.

BACK TO GILES AND PRINCE

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Prince is very happy they finally arrived.

BACK TO THE TROLLS

Against the younger trolls protests, Troll King makes his way to The Queen.  He opens the window thing on the door and peers inside.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
*cue scary music*

BACK TO PRINCE

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Giles went into the prison by himself.  Prince waits, but gets impatient and walks in.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sign on the door for funny.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
OH GOD GILES IS DEAD THE DAGGERS ON THE WALL KILLED HIM AND THE DOOR LOCKED AND PRINCE IS BY HIMSELF AHHHHH

8/417 minutes complete so far

More tomorrow.  I just want to get the intro out of the way first.  Comment, but don't spoil!

This isn't really a review as much as a blow-by-blow description of the movie...

Also, it's not really funny at all, and you're only 8 minutes into it.

Toonyman, I am disappoint.

Yeah, I see that now.
From now on, I will not summarize the movie.  Only REVIEW.

I didn't even realize.

IIRC it happens in the background whilst there is the bottom of a giants feet walking along through the foreground.

What I always wanted to know, is why there are daggers popping out of ONLY this door in the whole prison.  Was is made just to kill Giles?  We may never know, I won't.

Oh, and Burly wants to give Prince a kiss,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The three trolls push Prince around alot and Bluebell uses his short stature to trip him like some type of comedy,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
ALLEY OOPS

I believe this is the only fight they win in the whole movie.  And only because Prince has no experience in doing anything except looking happy.
The trolls don't even throw any punches.  I think I saw Blabberwort sissy slap him once.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Looks like The Troll King freed The Queen.  She gives Prince a talk something I don't know.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And then Prince was a dog.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ah, the Human/Dog swap.  Don't worry folks though, now that Prince is a dog, he can't speak English which is a plus.
Dog Prince is really really cool.  I think he commits suicide once.  He pees everywhere too.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
WHER-WHER-WHERE'S MY TAIL GONE??!!?!!

Prince Dog runs off into the prison.  He can't escape though, HE'S IN A PRISON!  Hah.
Makes perfect sense.

I wonder how Prince Dog is able to run so well as a Dog, like he's been sniffing his ass the whole time he was human or something.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
PLEASE LET ME EAT YOU

Queen needs a back-up man encase the Trolls fail in catching the dog (they will).

Meet yet another important character.  Wolf. Eat. You.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
His name is Wolf, because....he's half-wolf?  I don't know too much about that lethargy stuff.
He looks pretty clean for a prisoner.  I mean, some other dude was covered in like scum filth yaddha whoha.

Cue chase music with Trolls and Wolf chasing Prince Dog.
Prince Dog sounds ugly, let's just call him Prince.  And we'll call the other Prince Dog.  I mean.  DOG.  We'll call the other Prince.....a Dog.  There.

Now, Prince runs into the storage room thing, which is cool and all.  But it's a dead end.  Soooo...he finds a magic mirror thing that fell when he came in and it activates into New York city.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
That's a LOOONNGGG drop from the looks of it.  It's like, the exit is coming from a helicopter.

OH, that reminds me.  Where are Prince's guard people?  There was people moving the horse wagon, but they're no where to be found.

That's because they're The Queen's servants.  Somehow they were able to infiltrate the 4th Kingdom's security and be part of it.
Or something.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
PLOT COLLISION

The mirror brought Prince in front of Virginia's bike, which ahhh hit him really hard.  Virginia did a front flip into the asphalt.
ASPLAHTTTTTTTTTT

Now, Wolf goes through the mirror.  But....he doesn't come out anywhere near Prince or Virginia.  Which is weird.  Because, it was the exact same place.

Same for the Trolls, which is weiiirddd.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Bluebell: They must go through a ton of candles.

The only time The 10th Kingdom is ever said, is right now.
All thanks to Bluebell.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Oh man, that dude got TROLLED.

Queen has some stupid plan she's telling the Troll King, not important.  Something to do with the incarnation.  Royal who-ha.

Wait no, that's not till later.  Troll King is a big stupid head though.  He thinks he's smart, he probably is the smartest troll in the world, but that's about mentally handicapped for a human.

I mean, look at the children,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
SMACK
Yes, the radio turns on when she hits the dude.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
MAGIC BLACK BOX

I'm doing a Let's Watch.  Sounds good.

This'll be better than typing stuff anyway.  Make comments and stuff.
I'll be doing these in 10 minute segments.  Part 1 for now.

EDIT:
Appears to be 9 minutes, odd.  Heh.

The video is blocked in most countries, oh well.  I'm not sure how I can fix this.
