Author Topic: [40d16] dwarf repeatedly tries to cross forbidden area, dies of thirst  (Read 816 times)

So my dungeon master wants a drink, decides on a particular barrel in the barracks, and makes for it. Meanwhile, a siege has arrived, so all dwarves are ordered indoors.
In the middle of the barracks is a 4x8 area of "Above ground tiles". On the opposite side to the door is a booze stockpile, across this area of tiles. There are routes around these above ground tiles to the booze from the door, and the booze stockpile is entirely subterranean.
The dungeon master repeatedly can't drink, so I go and check it out. It turns out he's running backwards and forwards in and out of the above ground area, almost getting to the drink but cancelling and walking back the way he came when he can't. After a while he started showing the 'thirsty' status, so I saved, backed up, and waited.
He died of dehydration eventually.

This will be obsolete in the next version, since the "Stay Indoors" order has been removed in favor of burrows with alert statuses, with special attention to avoiding "entrance dance"-type situations.

Make a bridge well into the "outside" area, and when he starts spasming near the border, close it off. Make sure it's far enough into "outside" so that he won't be on the wrong side.
