Smelter modding

Is it possible to mod a smelter reaction to produce shell? I've got a moody dwarf that wants it and for some reason my dwarves are refusing to eat any of the 53 turtles I have sitting in a stockpile. I'd really rather the mood didn't fail.

Have the turtles been prepared at a fishery?

Also try forbidding the rest of your food, someone's going to get hungry eventually.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

If you want to remain legit, there is an alternative, you could simply forbid all food but the turtle, so dwarves have to go on a fish diet until there's a shell.

EDIT: Bah, ninja'd

Modding the smelter requires you to generate a new world unless you want to mess everything up, regardless.

Creating a new smelter reaction requires the game world to be restarted. However, adding more [PRODUCT:] lines to existing reactions will work just fine.

So, to produce turtle shell:
[PRODUCT:100:1:SHELL:NO_SUBTYPE:SHELL:TURTLE]

And then stick that in the steel reaction or something. Replace the 1 with a 10 for 10 turtle shells instead of 1. (the 100 is the chance of producing the product, leave it at 100)

Assuming reactions involving shells arn't bugged.

Tried forbidding everything else, still not eating it. I haven't prepared them because I didn't catch them - I brought them with me on one of my numerous reclaims.
