Plump helmets not leaving seeds

I just noticed my plump helmets are not dropping seeds when my dorfs eat or make them into booze. Could there be any special reason too why this might happen? I've re-taken an old fort and the map is swimming in old armor and whatnots.

you sure the BREWED ones aren't making seeds?
i know the cooked ones don't, but i never heard of brewed one's not generating seeds.

You are limited to 200 seeds.  Likely there are already a lot of seeds on the map already, although they might be forbidden, unreachable, or already tasked and therefore unusable.

Wow I _never_ knew there was a 200 seed limit! Is there a way to increase that?

Hm, that might be the problem. Guess I'll have to search the map for lost seeds =)

I'm pretty sure I've had more than 200 seeds before, or is the limit 200 seeds of the same type?

It's per-type.  So if there are 200 units of plump helmet spawn on the map, eating or brewing plump helmets won't yield more.

Hm, any easy way to clear the map of a specific forbidden item? Can't I mass-allow something?

Should just be d-b(-c) to reclaim en massé.

Assuming you can find all of the supposedly forbidden items to begin with.

You could use the stocks screen... Assuming you have a bookkeeper keeping up with the books. Just find the seeds listing and go down, hitting f to forbid or unforbid a seed type. No searching involved.

Be aware that objects that were tasked for a job when the fortress was abandoned will, when you recover, still be tasked and therefore unusable.  I'm not sure if seeds planted in a field count as being tasked for a job - if so, many of those seeds might be impossible for you to use now.

However, buying seeds can take you over the limit temporarily; I have 280 rope reed seeds at present, and am burning through them surprisingly quickly.
