I simply turned all large clusters to small ones.

Primary downside is that platinum, ruby and sapphire no longer exist, as there's nowhere big enough for them to spawn.

I've had occasions where DF has announced yet ANOTHER microcline, olivine, or whatever rock but skipped over the precious gems

For my fortresses, I tend to use olivine floors, felsite walls, and stairs made of orthoclase. They look fantastic! But yeah, fuck microcline. :C

Microcline is the reason I construct most of even my underground walls. Well that, and all the other badly placed interuptions. Like finding pink gems in your dungeon walls.

I usualy prefer not to construct just a few bits of wall, and just dig away the lot and replace them with constructions, in which I can make little colored patterns. I can just engrave the floors if I want to engrave.

Oh yeah, I also turned down the frequency of microcline to 25 rather than 100. I later though about making microcline white and putting in a few clusters of cyan microcline, along with a few amazonite clusters. But I cant be bothered to regenerate my world for it.

Microcline is nice if the only other stones in your fort are claystone gray, kaolonite red and orthoclase yellow. So I ration my microcline, saving it for some 100% light blue above ground construction.
Edit: I forgot schist coloured shitbrown crap rock. I hate schist. I hate it so much. And its everywhere.

And now im starting to detest olivine for the SHEAR AMOUNTS of it im getting in this one map, and ive only dug a straight hole DOWN, ive dug through like 15 olivine clusters.
sure im getting a pit of platinum and other crap but nothing great...

Im going to have to make this massive tower of it over my base... great...

I use microcline to make the girly elves feel at home in the trade depot, and then I take the support from underneath it out and fill the pit with water, later draining it to aquire the items.

If I ever find Microcline on my current map I intend to setup a Craftdwarf shop and set it to churn out Microcline craft good that will be sold to the Elves and/or Humans.

Oh my god I love kimberlite so much. It's such a wonderful dark blue and it contrasts obsidian and it stands out against Olivine (which is also a nice stone) and IT HAS DIAMONDS.

BAN ALL STONES EXCEPT OBSIDIAN AND KIMBERLITE (and clusters of Olivine).

DO IT.

I like microcline.  I like the color when you make towers out of it.

Since I use a mod, microcline appears a rather nice gray/blue or gray/purple color (it's kind of hard to tell). So I love finding it! It definitely breaks the monotony of gray, brown, red, and yellow.
