Single King
« on: January 19, 2010, 10:05:27 am »

My king recently arrived (he's an accomplished axedwarf and came wielding a steel axe, yay!). However, he doesn't appear to be married, as such can't spawn children (whom I would give the custom professions of "Crown Prince" and "Royal Blood" to follow his line once he kicks the dust).

My question is this, can the king marry a denizen of the fortress? (He also doesn't appear to have a spouse/lover listed in his relationship panel.)

It depends. If your king never got around to getting married, I'm not sure whether he'll pick a spouse in your fort. If he's a widower though, he'll never remarry. Dwarven marriages are not 'until death do us part' - they are eternal.

You can find out if he was ever married in the Legends screen.

Well, Legends says nothing about him, he was born to parents of unknown origin and he settled at my fortress in year so and so.
Thats all.

You can find out if he was ever married in the Legends screen.

You can also check his Relationships in-game just as you would with any other dwarf - being created during worldgen, it will list his entire family tree (or at least those that were significant). If your world is sufficiently young, it's entirely possible he never married.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

My world was 1050 years old. I got it from the wiki as the place to start my second fort (its now 20 years in) back when I didn't know as much about the game :D
So I guess he isn't married.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.
