Slowness and Fixes
« on: April 04, 2010, 09:52:30 am »

Just thought I'd share my experience.

Running .31 on a pretty decent windows 7 system, using mayday's graphics with partial set to yes:0.

First, the menus were so slow it was difficult to even select an item. Hitting the down arrow would scroll through one to three menu items after lag, for instance. World gen took about 45 minutes, and after accepting the world, offloading only 2800 units took about 20 minutes.  I tried the accelerator, and that had no effect -- it would also randomly distort all of the displayed graphics.

Fixing it and increasing performance to 40d levels was as simple as removing the accelerator and setting dfort to run with windows xp compatibility in the properties menu.

Just thought I'd share in case compat mode works for others.

what processor are you using? I may have to try the compat mode change if my performance gets low. But I've actually been seeing better performance out of the new DF... on the other hand I'm only generating ~50 deep worlds so that may be it too.

On Win 7(no modified settings) i7-920(stock) 6GB RAM I'm still getting 90+ fps with 50 dwarves and 2 cavern systems revealed, no partial print or any special settings. I am using the mayday pack
