Identify Plant
« on: May 14, 2008, 04:21:00 pm »

This is rather minor, but I think it could be useful.

Designate identification of plants.  Herbalists will try to identify designated plants, allowing you to look at what the plants are before picking them.  However, it has a chance of failure, based on the experience of the herbalist.

Also, a possibility of misidentification.

This addition doesn't seem to have a use in my humble oppinion... compared that you really might as well pick it anyhow...

It would make more sense in Adventure mode.

Though the lack of poisonous plants does negate its use in Adventure mode as of right now too. (and the fact that you can't pick plants)

Edit: I changed the term Useless... since it is antagonistic

I'd rather just have all shrubs start identified, not really a point to identify vs. pick.

After all, if an adventurer with 0 skill in herbalism knows what every tree and bush is, I fail to see why an actual herbalist should need to bother with an identify designation.

not usefull IMO.

I see herbalist is an abstraction: he/she goes to a herby patch of forest and roots around for usefull plants. The patch in my imagination does not contain a single plant, but rather is a particularly interesting patch of herbs.

If you really need to know the plant, recruit the herber, it drops the goods and you can [k]view it. [d]ump it if not wanted, otherwise deactivate the recruit.

I don't recall if the carried object is viewable, but the above method should work, if rather cumbersome.
