That time would be around the Sydney area, so yeah. Let her rest 'till next time.

Edit: Also, Coil the Woodcutter. In an almost elf-like way he believes in the balance of nature and the purpose of different animals to the harmony of the forest. However, he also believes that dwarves purpose is to screw around with this balance. He does his job to nature well.

And this is why you'll be herding off the fire imps, captain ignorant. ;3

2nd of Granite, 22.

We took a moment to survey our site. To the north of our wagon and down a slope is a bunch of trees, a nice lush forest. I've ordered it cleared of trees. This will make a nice place for my battleship. There is also some more forested grassland to the north east, but a much smaller area.

Down in the south east is a large, open magma pipe. I've heard terrible tales of flaming imps bursting from the depths to scorch unwitting dwarves. Just beyond the bubbling pool of the earth's blood is a tiny stretch of brook in our territory. I could have sworn the maps said we'd have more...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There are a hematite and copper vein open to the air in the white hills of felsite. Hopefully we'll have plenty of iron to make our fortress successful! Anyway, now we strike the earth! I'm ordering everyone to their respective jobs, and some make-shift ones. After all, we can't do much smithing or siege engineering if we haven't got a home, right?

14th of Granite, 22.

We've started digging and working furiously. I've taken up role as temporary carpenter to try and make some beds, as everyone else I asked insisted they had as little clue as I did. Of course, I only really asked Shebi and Jervous, because everyone else was busy.

Shebi and Jervous have been set to smoothing the walls of our rooms. There's no point having a temporary home if you can't even like it, right? Not to mention, something tells me this temporary home will be a lot less temporary than it sounds.

Yanish ran straight north after I told him where the trees were. I can hear his excited gibbering as he strikes the trees down with his axe. I'm glad I don't have to go down there.

Derm is gathering plants. There's a rash on his arm that he's feverishly scratching at. I think he grabbed the wrong plant. Ah well, we'll need it. We need a bit of an aboveground crop before we get underground growing set up.

Here is a quick engraving of our outpost so far.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Pictured is Shebi and Jervous engraving my room's walls, and our miner... mining.

---
Also, Spartan and Duke, we have two unnamed dwarves; a miner and a crafter. They're also both female. Either you can take them, or you can wait for migrants. Sorry guys...

uh hi.  :D

If possible I'd like to be dwarf'd sometime soon, preferably a male miner named Zades. He's a man with a love for all things macabre, unfortunately this clashes with his dreams of being a comedian.

Seeing as neither Spartan or Duke have been available to comment, they can have my two unclaimed dwarves. Goden the miner will go to Spartan, and will start crossbow training/hunting as soon as everything is carved out. Ingish the craftsdwarf will go to Duke. I'm sure we'll have a need for a second woodcutter soon, and we'll have some metalworking going shortly.

EDIT: I'll cue you up, Zades.

Carpenter/Mason/Metalcrafter, depends from what you will build that ship.

Please, get some 'friendly' guy for me, so when he dies there will be tantrum mutiny spiral :D

3rd of Slate, 22. Mid-Spring.

So, we've been working industriously. I finished my tiresome labour of carving out seven beds, and went to shout at the miner to hurry up. Not to mention I took my precious time to finally learn who our last two workers are! The miner refers to himself as 'Spartan 117'. He seems like a pretty tough guy. I vaguely remember having an argument about crossbows with him. I said something about making one...? I'm sure I'll get around to it some day.

The craftsdwarf calls himself Coil. He seems to talk about the trees like an elf would, as sickening as it is. "This highwood, see how it balances the nature around it..." he would muse. It makes me sick. I might just give him an axe later to make him chop those trees down. He said something else about destroying them, but I know he was just compensating for his elf-like nature.

Apart from that, our rooms and stockpiles are finally carved out. I had the stone moved outside and our food finally brought back in.

15th of Slate, 22.

I finally decided that we should all have a sleep. It's been 45 days since we got here, and we're all pretty bushed!

Here is a little list of all of our dwarves, as well as our animals. Those kittens are wandering everywhere, mewling loudly and dropping lizard corpses everywhere. I really wish they'd stop that. I had to dig a small garbage pit out the front to dump them in. No one wants to touch them, though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here is an overview of our fortress so far, including incomplete planned areas. I've also included a graphical representation of our stocks. There's a masterpiece rock craft in there that I'm rather proud of!

Anyway, journal, I need rest. I will write another day. For now, Captain Cog out.

((Coil, go to sleep! Get out of Spartan's room.))

------
Oh, hey Haspen! I'll cue you up too. I'm sure when we get migrants there'll be plenty to go around.

I'm also very disappointed with the lack of terrible undead monstrosities making attempts on our lives.  There are a few mountain goats, and four fire imps hanging out at the bottom of their pipe. That piss-poor excuse for a brook is unfortunately behind them, though. That might be a problem.

EDIT: Added a bit more to my little update. There's a huge thunderstorm outside my house, it's pretty cool!

Coil does whatever he wants whenever he wants. Also, I wanted to poison the local mouse population that has roosted under your bed. They keep the spiders in check ya know.
