Finding quest givers

Is there an easier way to locate people within settlements who give you jobs to do? The room by room approach has become very tedious, very quickly.

I would fill it with Magma if there was any on my map... there isn't, so I'm filling it with Rhesus Macaques.

I'm not sure if there is >_<  For human settlements at least, you appear in the town's pub and the town's mayor tends to hang around there during the day.  As for dwarves and elves... I've never figured out how to find them quickly :/

I've personally never found a Dwarven quest-giver. The mountain halls that the computer generates have no rhyme to the reason.

1. Stab an elf
2. Wait for them to surround you
3. Pray they have a change of heart
4.Find the flashing light blue one

Mountain halls... I check every room twice to find the king... then can never find him again to turn in the quest.  May have been because I was playing a filthy human and thus was blind underground as well.

Not even the little beardies can see underground. Everything has the same field of vision underground. You play as something, you are blind as a bat, but you play against something, they can see you just fine. As for finding a dwarf king? HAH, good luck. With there being no discernable directionality in dwarven fortresses, he will never be in the same place twice. Humans are the easiest to find, by far.

I just look around human towns, for quests, and when they have none, I embark with a separate adventurer, go on a rampage, and escape, just so I can go back to my original adventurer and take the quest to kill my other adventurer. Good fun, that.

My policy is to ask the mayor of every human town, and if he doesn't have a quest, my new quest becomes "slay the mayor and any who would dare help him". Stupid mayors, why can't they tell me they have no quest from more than one tile away?!

Perhaps the best choice, since everything is placeholders already, is to change the raws over so at least dwarves and elves have human style towns.  I once visited a human ruin in a forest.  It was pretty awesome.

Sounds like a plan. I take it that wouldn't affect dwarf mode in any way?

Well, you'd be able to embark on a dwarvern town, but other than that it just provides shops and quests for adventurers.

Only if you embark on another settlement, I think.

That's what I thought/hoped. Thanks.
