[40d] Sleeping Guard Freezes Siege Squad
« on: December 20, 2009, 04:51:29 pm »

In my most recent siege 4 "squads" of goblins showed up. 3 of them moved towards my fort as usual, while the 4th did not move from the edge of the map where it had spawned, although the goblins were moving around a bit. It had a goblin Guard that had no injuries, but the wounds screen showed him as unconscious. Rather than the usual "Z" that accompanies sleep, he had a white "X". After a few of the attacking goblins met their death on my traps and the rest ran away, the 4th squad had still not moved. I sent one of my military over in an attempt to lure them into moving towards my fort, but he was attacked by a goblin before he could escape. As soon as he fought back against the goblin, this triggered all of the rest of the squad to run, which they did, leaving the unconscious guard where he was. My military had no problem with killing the guard, ending the siege.
So basically, an unconscious guard caused an entire 4th of a siege to simply stand in place until attacked.

Well if COD players all have ADHD, and Minecrafters autism, then what do DF players all have?

This is a known issue and is being worked on.

A workaround for you: Promote someone else from within the squad and place the squad leader who is unconscious at the bottom of the CoC.  This results in the rest of the squad following your new leader while the unconscious soldier goes to nappy time.

The problem is that it was an ENEMY leader, who was causing the enemies to just camp outside and not attack.

I had something similar in my game, except with a macegoblin local leader who had lost his hand during worldgen and so, kept passing out every few steps. This in effect made that guys group basically crawl towards the fort and so I simply brought the fight to them.

If he had no injuries, thats wierd. You probably should try and find out what that guards history was in worldgen, might give an answer or a possibility.

Yeah, these oddities are caused by worldgen injuries.  It should be fixed in the next version, since wounds will heal properly and stop causing people to pass out from pain.

Are you absolutely sure that he wasnt wounded? Did you scroll down on the wounds screen all the way?

Indeed I did. I wish I'd thought to make a save of it. :|
