If you could have a Dwarf Fortress total conversion...
« on: December 20, 2009, 06:03:14 pm »

If you could have a Dwarf Fortress total conversion, what would it be?

Myself, given the theme of the game (bravely setting up shop for your civilization in the middle of nowhere, amidst wild animals, bandits and hostile armies), I'd go with an American Frontier TC. Stake out a living in the new world as a lone adventurer or lead seven British (or Spanish, or French, or...) men and women who are arriving by wagon to the site of their new settlement. They will build farms, mine into the mountains (though probably to a lesser extent than in DF :P ), set up workshops and smelters, and along the way they'll need to fend off native Americans and the soldiers of rival colonial powers.

Someone did an American western total conversion.

For serious? i can has?

:starts googling:

EDIT: looking and finding nothing. I found the Wiki's mod base, but it only lists an Asian and Roman TC. Are you sure there's something like what I proposed out there?

I'd go with a drug war total conversion- from refining the coke in the mountains to kids selling $5 vials on street corners. Turf wars, funding rebel groups, expanding operations. Elvbes would be replaced with the government drug squads and narcotics cops

Awesomeness, I wanted to do a gang war total conversion of Civ III once. Replacing terrain types like desert, plains, etc. with types of city districts (slums, residential, industrial, etc.), and having various stereotypical gangs like a Chicano drug cartel, the Russian mafia, a Chinese godfather, a hip-hop-loving Afro-American gangsta and his homies, etc. Hookers would replace clowns, torpedoes would replace tax collectors...

...pity I never made it. It'd have been tonnes of fun.

And seriously, I can see the appeal of running a hidden illegal operation inside a mountain hall.

A vile force of cops has arrived!

Once tried to conquer Earth, and succeeded! Too bad it got really, really boring, really, really fast.

One day, we shall all look back on this, and laugh. Sorry about the face, by the way, and the legs, and the eyes, and the arms. In fact, sorry 'bout the whole body.

I like to pick very cold maps and fancy that I am playing some artic horror survival game. Bonus points if there are zombies or other horror themed elements.

So kinda like The Thing, except with MOAR MAGMA?

I'm not sure I'd want a total conversion. my friend is always getting me to mod him a human fortress though.

Space exploration is something I've considered, too. Or some sort of modern "alternate reality" thing where you have a desolate wasteland and humans are exploring and colonizing it.
